SovrGPT for Excel

A sidebar right inside Excel. You write what should happen to the spreadsheet, and SovrGPT shows you the changes first in plain language. By default every change waits for your approval; if you like, it runs automatically. Every change can be undone with one click.

Processing in EU data centres. Only web search (on by default, can be switched off) sends search terms to a provider in the USA.

For organisations: register once, everyone has it

The recommended way: your IT enters one address, and everyone in the company has the button in Excel without doing anything themselves.

The steps in the Microsoft 365 admin center

Settings → Integrated apps → “Upload custom apps”
Choose “Office Add-in” and paste the address above as the manifest URL
Validate, assign users or groups, finish

According to Microsoft it takes up to 72 hours until the add-in appears for everyone. Updates arrive automatically after that; IT only needs to re-register it if the manifest itself changes.

These menu items only exist in the Microsoft 365 admin center and only for administrators of your tenant. If you cannot find them, use the single-computer route below.

For a single machine

To try it out without waiting for IT. Windows with Excel from Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 and later.

Download the installer

Double-click the downloaded file.
Close Excel completely — every window — and open it again.
In Excel, click Home → Add-ins, select SovrGPT for Excel there and press Add.Step 3 is easy to miss: the file only makes the add-in available. It becomes visible once you add it through the Add-ins dialog.
Done. The Open assistant button now stays permanently on the Home tab in the SovrGPT group.

Windows shows a warning. That is normal for this file type.Files of this type downloaded from the internet trigger a Windows SmartScreen message ("Windows protected your PC"). Click "More info" and then "Run anyway". If that feels uncomfortable, use the route through your IT instead; the message does not appear there.

What the file does, in full

It creates a folder inside your own user profile and downloads the add-in's manifest file from sovrgpt.com into it.
It writes a single value into your personal Windows user profile so that Excel knows about the add-in.
No administrator rights. Nothing is installed, and nothing in Windows, Excel or other user accounts is changed.

Requirements

Excel for Windows from Microsoft 365, or Office 2019 / 2021 / 2024. Excel on the web and Excel for Mac also work via the central deployment route.
A SovrGPT account. You sign in the first time you open the side panel.
An internet connection to sovrgpt.com.

Office 2019 and 2021 lack Microsoft's one-click undo. SovrGPT brings its own instead.
