SovrGPT for Excel
A side panel right inside Excel. You describe what should happen to the spreadsheet — SovrGPT proposes the changes and shows them to you in plain language. You decide how often you are asked: by default every change waits for your approval, or let it run fully automatically. Every change can be undone with one click.
Operated in the EU. Your spreadsheet data never leaves European jurisdiction.
For organisations: register once, everyone has it
The recommended route. Your IT department enters one address, and from then on every colleague has the button in Excel — without a single step of their own.
This is the address your IT department needs:
https://sovrgpt.com/xl/manifest.xmlThe steps in the Microsoft 365 admin center
- Settings → Integrated apps → “Upload custom apps”
- Choose “Office Add-in” and paste the address above as the manifest URL
- Validate, assign users or groups, finish
Microsoft states it can take up to 72 hours before it appears for every user. Later improvements to SovrGPT arrive automatically — re-registering is only needed if the manifest itself changes.
These menu items exist only in the Microsoft 365 admin center, not in Excel — and only if you are an administrator of your tenant. If you cannot find them, you are in the right place: use the single-machine route below instead.
The detailed version for administrators, including the prerequisites and the cases in which this route is not available: Documentation → SovrGPT for Excel.
For a single machine
If you want to try it yourself without waiting for IT. Windows, Excel from Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 and newer.
- Double-click the downloaded file.
- Close Excel completely — every window — and open it again.
- In Excel, click Home → Add-ins, select SovrGPT for Excel there and press Add.
- Done. The Open assistant button now stays permanently on the Home tab in the SovrGPT group.
Step 3 is the one that is easy to miss: the installer only makes the add-in available to Excel. It becomes visible once you add it through the Add-ins dialog. After that, never again.
Windows will warn you. That is normal — and we are telling you why in advance.
Any file of this type downloaded from the internet triggers a Windows SmartScreen notice (“Windows protected your PC”). Click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. If that makes you uncomfortable, that is a sound instinct: use the IT route above instead — there the notice never appears.
What the file does — in full
- It creates a folder inside your own user profile and downloads the add-in's manifest file from sovrgpt.com into it.
- It writes a single value into your personal Windows user profile so that Excel knows about the add-in.
- No administrator rights. Nothing is installed, nothing about Windows or Excel itself is changed, no other user accounts are touched.
Want it gone again? Also one double-click: Download the uninstaller
Requirements
- Excel for Windows from Microsoft 365, or Office 2019 / 2021 / 2024. Excel on the web and Excel for Mac also work via the central deployment route.
- A SovrGPT account. You sign in the first time you open the side panel.
- An internet connection to sovrgpt.com.
On Office 2019 and 2021 Microsoft's one-click undo for add-ins is unavailable. SovrGPT therefore brings its own undo, which works there just the same.
